Mel is leaving tomorrow and it seems like she just got here. Of course Cumorah took her for almost three weeks.
At the Butchard Gardens they had histories of their head gardeners over the last hundred years. Mel is our head gardener here at the farm. She does all the design work, the majority of the weeding, transplanting and watering. Every Sunday that I take a bouquet to class I get so many compliments on the beautiful flowers but the honor has to go to Mel. I am am still in charge of the pruning, it is one job I relish.
The picture of Mel is in Canada when we took our garden trip. For those of you who know her well, Mel likes to be well supplied with drinking water. For a good tip a waitress best leave a full pitcher of water at Mel's elbow. We think Canada must have some kind of law against drinking fountains because they were few and far between. When we finally found one Mel wanted her picture taken for proof there really were such things as a drinking fountain in the great country to the north.
Besides all her hard work she is the Aunt who sings princess songs with the girls, teaches the children about piggy noses, and screams on the big tube behind the boat(that makes it more fun), cooks up a storm and works her magic in the theater(with the help of her sisters and sisters-in-law). She also makes an incredible hot fudge peanut butter sauce. Yummy We love Mel, and sure wish the summer had been longer.
