new babies

The new chicks are here and they are sweet, but Dad reminds me that they will be evil. I can't figure out how to move a picture so they aren't paired as I would like them. Here is an adult Ameraucana.
These are my feather footed Bantams. Suzy said they are great mothers and will babysit the chicks of coming years. We got three of them. There was lady at the Co-op selling her own chicks so the Bantams are a little older than the new chicks and have already started to get their feathers.

This is the baby Light Brahama. We got two of these.

This is the adult Barred Plymouth Rock. I got ten of these.

Here is the adult light Brahma. We got two, I couldn't resist getting some different varieties. One piece of counsel I received while doing my research was to switch breeds every year so you know which are two years old and need to be eliminated from the flock, but since we let our chickens retire and live out their lives in luxury we decide a different assortment wouldn't hurt.

The Ameraucana is the striped back chick on the left and the dark chick is the Plymouth Rock.

Here is Ernie with the chicks in the watering trough. We bought a red heat heat lamp bulb. Sister Laude told me the chicks thrive under the red light. She also recommends the red light for adult chickens. Of course they are in Dad's studio, he is a good sport. It didn't take long for them to find the water and feed. Hopefully they will all be vigorous and we will eat their yummy eggs.
