Baby Sage

Here's the latest as of tonight. The life flight to SLC was tough but not as tough as this new little girl. She stabalized pretty quick and they have even been able to turn the respirator down. They have diagnosed the problem. Sage has what is called kyylothorax which basically means the thorax cavity fills with fluid. It can be caused by three things. a virus, a defective heart or abnormality of lung tissue. The doctors have ruled out heart problems. They will start testing for virus' tomorrow. If they can't identify a virus they will consider a surgery that will stop the flow from the lymph nodes. She will be on a sugar water diet for the next week then they will start to defat Jessica's milk (fat can be a problem).

Jessica is doing well physically. Both she and Brian are troopers. This has been a very emotional day. We are so grateful for modern medicine. The next weeks will bring some adjustments for the family but all will be well. I've got to say though there are sure a lot of really nice people in this world. I loved the life flight team, totally professional with tremendous kindeness and compassion. Neighbors and friends here are so anxious to be of service. Family is ready to jump in at a moments notice, and friends at home have Jessica and the baby in their prayers besides taking care of the farm, offering to do the canning and a host of other things.

The other big news is Joshua's chicken laid her first egg today. Life doesn't get any better than that.

Thanks for the post. What a beauty (both Sage and Jessica). I think Sage is the first DeOren to take a helicopter ride - that will totally giver her bragging rights one day...
