Double Humph!
I erased my entire external hard drive this morning. How you say? Who knows. I am trying a recovery program as I write. It has all our China pictures, China journals, my family history work, art files etc. Dad was calm as ever. He did say it was sad that since we are both slowly losing our minds it had been nice to know our memories were stored someplace where they could be retrieved. Hope the recovery works. If not maybe the angels in heaven have records.

Maybe you should take a week off from the computer (and the kitchen) they have not been kind!
RescuePRO is a great program, it's something that usually comes with higher end CF and SD cards when you buy them. :) If any program can recover formatted files it's that program, it's specifically designed to help photographers (like myself) recover from an "oops" moment. Hopefully it helps.
My heart is totally going out to you...this has happened to me multiple times...I have lost entire years worth of photos of my daughter...it is heart wrenching. I have learned a few lessons...the first and best being that my blog is a life saver in that department...I have posted many of my favorite pictures and memories...and I am so glad I have because they are the only ones I have left from those times. I am so sorry for you though...
