This is a nativity that I bought in Mesa years ago when boutiques were just coming on the scene. I was attracted to it because the kids can pick it up and arrange without worrying about breaking it. But for some reason once I had it arranged the way I wanted it someone would always come along and change it. You will notice in the picture the figures are close together so close that you can't really see some of them but that is because of David. Years ago "someone" kept taking my nicely placed figures each put in it's place so it could be seen into this tight scrunched up bunch. After this happened several times I finally ask the kids who was messing with MY nativty, now remember I was attracted to it in the first place because it was touchable, go figure. Anyway David confessed. I ask him why he kept putting the figures so close and he replied, "Mom if you had been at the birth of the Saviour wouldn't you haven't wanted to be as close as possible?" Lesson learned. Every year now as I set out my nativities I think of that experince. Children in their simplicity and innocence experience the world through such uncluttered senses. No wonder the Saviour admonished us to be like them. So no matter how it looks, being close to Jesus Christ is where I yearn to be. I hope that my life choices don't put me far outside of that circle worrying more about how I appear to the world than to relish the priviledge of being near our Lord.

My kids always rearrange and scrunch up our nativities too! I hope it is for the same reason.
