Pruning the Roses, Primary and It's Been 24 Years

Saturday ended up being beautiful so Dad and I decided to trim the rose arbor and train some of the rose stalks over the roof. There was a tree branch in the way so Dad got out the chain saw and cut it off. One thing leads to another and a couple of hours later...
Nice airy trees...

and a truck load of branches.

These are some of my Primary children they did a readers theater of Elijah and the prophets of Baal. They dressed for the part. They are a great group of children. I have thoroughly enjoyed teaching them this year and I have learned a lot from them.

My first backpacking trip in 24 years, the last one was to the Wind Rivers. Jessica was 10 and I was pregnant with Michael. I have been on a girls hike but Dad carried the backpack.

We went to Beehive Lake. It was a good climb for me. I definitely knew my heart still resides in my chest. It was about five miles in and by the time I hit the granite that led to the lake I figured it would take me as long to do that part of the hike as the rest of it. Like bike riding I have one speed and one speed only. SLOW.

It is a pretty little lake and we had it all to ourselves. Dad really wanted to stay up and see the stars but I had to go to bed. I should have stayed up. I still have some figuring to find a way to sleep well at night camping. This is Dad fixing breakfast this morning the lake reflection was really beautiful.

This is as we are getting ready to leave. We did some fishing but didn't have a lot of luck, and threw back everything we caught.

This vein of rock ran all the way through the side of the mountain. It was really amazing. The whole hike Grandpa talked about how Josh would like this, or David would like that, or Emily would just love doing this or Diana should be in charge of all the chocolate breaks. Every few minutes it was, I would love to bring David and Sherrie here or wouldn't Stephen and Rosie have a great time doing this, or wouldn't Ryan love these rocks to climb....and on and on. It was a good trip and Grandpa is taking notes for next summer.

crazy empty nesters:) I'm sure Diana will be happy to assume the post of head chocolate break girl.

You should ask Vern about his backpacking pad. He swears it's the most comfortable thing he's ever slept on, including our last mattress! (The new one is hard to beat, but it's a close call.)

That looks like a lovely spot. Thanks for posting it!

Love to see your adventures together and hear of your dreams for sharing them with family. As I read the end of your post I couldn't help but think that "where your treasure is, there will your heart be also". It is beautiful to see your thoughts and heart and treasure are with your family (and the beautiful, simple things in nature from a loving Creator)!

I am impressed Aunt Jeanne! I didn't realize it had been 24 years since your last backpacking trip. The pictures are beautiful - I am glad you had a great time!
