Fall is definetly in the air today. I went to the farmers market this morning and most people were bundled up in sweatshirts and sweaters. But I digress.
Lunch was a delight today. I do have a few measly tomatoes in the garden an some very nice basil. So onto the internet I went to learn how to make a basic pesto. Easy. Taking some of Marian's rosemary bread minus the rosemary with a light splash of olive oil on the flat cast iron grill I toasted the bread. Topped it with pesto, fresh tomatoe and Suzie's fresh goat cheese. It was to die for. Sorry Mel, but do you know what that would cost you in New York?

FYI: Most pesto calls for pine nuts, but I was out and I only had walnuts and it tasted the same. From now on I will use walnuts because I have them on hand. YUM! Our basil plant has bark on it like a tree. :)
Love the garden musings! I got a fabulous (and easy) basil recipe from a friend in MN and tried it out last summer and definitely had to repeat it this year! We've been freezing it in cubes and enjoying pesto throughout the year.
I think one of my favorites is a homemade pizza crust topped with pesto, garden sliced tomatoes and mozzarella . . . but your grilled bread and olive oil has me wanting to try that out SOON!

It would cost at least $12.50 or as much as your cheese grater.
