These are the ladies of our book group. We are in our fourth season together. Two of us are missing because of illness and I'm taking the picture. We always feel not quite whole when someone isn't able to come. We range in age from the late fifties to early twenties. All of us have children. Three of us are empty nesters. The rest have children ranging from 14 year olds down to infants. We have professional educators, home schoolers, an artist, fabulous cooks, marathon runners, gardners, chocolate lovers (the list would be long). We started out some of us already friends and some of us acquaintances. In the time we have spent together we have learned to really love one another. It's a great support group. Besides books, we talk about our children, politics, religion and life in general. Together we could solve quite a few of the problems of the world. These are intelligent and articulate women with strong personalities, who have a deep respect for each other and each others life experience. This is our first dinner together. January is the month we review our best read of the previous year. Having tasty food is a little distracting. We did fondue. For most of us it was a first but a little research produced yummy results.

Emily said she would dip her food in chocolate.
Ok, so how did you all come together? Are you all LDS? I'd love to do something like this, but all the people I know are LDS, and I'm looking for some variety of though....
We are all LDS. We started as an Enrichment group. Found that most women only came once. These are the die hards. I think another thing that makes this group a little differnt is we didn't have an assigned read, sometimes a particular genre, biography, fantasy whatever. We pretty much just do what we want.
I love the book club idea and the bringing together of women of various backgrounds and strengths. Some of my dearest friends in Minnesota were the die-hards of what started as an Enrichment book club but we just called ourselves the "simple living" group. LDS church members and a few not. Ah, such sweet memories. I'm still checking out books they're reading on occasion and visiting via email.
By the way, I was wondering if you did a cheese fondue? I heard of a family who did a tradition of cheese fondue for New Year's and I have been wanting to try it. One of Josh's professors gave me her time-polished recipe, but I can't read it and it has alcohol in it anyway and I'm not confident enough to adapt a fondue since I've never done one yet! :)
Oh, and if I were up north I'd love to mingle among you amazing women! Love, Anna
